“Zoning” really is not a bad thing when one takes into account the overall benefits to communities as a whole. As defined by one source, “The purpose of zoning is to promote the health, safety, morals and general welfare of the community, to protect and conserve the value of building, and to encourage the most appropriate use of the land.”

Keeping the overall intent of “Zoning” in mind really is a good thing. Here in Perry, your elected officials, the Board of Zoning Appeals and Zoning Inspector work hard to always make the best decisions for the entire Perry Village Community. When in doubt as to whether or not a zoning permit would be required, please contact the Perry Village Zoning Inspector and we’ll be more than happy to answer all of your questions so that you have the accurate answers.

The most needed and requested zoning permits are for fences, pools, decks, sheds and additions. Other types of exterior/outside projects may also require a zoning permit. When in doubt about the need for a zoning permit, simply contact the Perry Village Zoning Inspector and your questions will be answered quickly and accurately.

As a reminder, we really appreciate community involvement, including with zoning matters. Please feel free to let us know your thoughts, ideas and suggestions to make either new or changes to existing zoning laws. This can be done by attending the Perry Village Council meetings held at our Village Hall on Center Road or by contacting your elected council representatives or the zoning inspector.

Perry Village Planning Commission

This Village Commission, composed of Mayoral appointed members (Two Village residents, Two Council members, and the Mayor) comprises the Perry Village Planning Commission. Annually the commission will elect a member for the positions of Commission Chair and recording secretary.
Its mission is to review all submissions for new building and land use within the Village. Its reviews will be tested using established zoning laws and Village ordinances.
Submissions for Planning Commission go to the Mayor with assistance of the Zoning Inspector and Village Solicitor to determine the need for the Village Planning Commission involvement. The Commission will then meet to review submissions. It may request input of the submitting party
and other professionals to give recommendations and schedule any community hearings as may be required.  It then will make a recommendation to the full Perry Village Council to approve or disapprove the submission.
The Village Solicitor will attend a Commission public meetings and the Village Clerk will place notices of all scheduled Planning Commission meetings.
